A 14-YEAR-OLD student died after hitting her head on the ground when stumbling on a bamboo stick during the solar eclipse yesterday in Hubei Province, the first such case ever reported in China during the astronomical phenomenon, Wuhan Evening Post reported today.

The girl surnamed Zhao went to a platform on the eighth floor of her residential building in Wuhan, capital of Hubei, in order to get a better view of the eclipse.

At around 8:30 am when the eclipse began she looked up into the sky and observed the sun carefully, the report said. She lost her footing when stepping on a bamboo stick and fell. Her forehead smacked into the ground, according to the report.
