Chen eases into 2nd round at Asia Championships
Defending champion Chen Long advanced into the second round of the Badminton Asia Championships with a comfortable 21-8, 21-8 win over Bahaedeen-Ahmad Alshannik of Jordan in Wuhan yesterday.
“It was my first game of the tournament. More or less, I was a little nervous,” the third seed said after the 33-minute tie. Another home player, the newly crowned All-England winner Shi Yuqi also went through after his rival Lee Dong-keun of South Korea withdrew while trailing 3-21, 2-6. Awaiting Shi in the second round is former world No. 2 Kento Momota of Japan. Women’s top seed Tai Tzu-ying of Chinese Taipei also moved into the second round in central China’s Hubei Province.
