Hong goes wire-to-wire for Brunei Ladies Open win
Hong Ran earned her first victory since 2010 yesterday when the South Korean veteran won the inaugural Brunei Ladies Open title going wire-to-wire for a five-stroke victory.
The 31-year-old closed with a bogey-free round of 7-under-par 64, the same score she posted in the opening round, to finish on 18-under 195. Her fourth career win was worth 140 million Korean won (US$130,774). Hong’s compatriots Choi Ka-ram (64), Ji Han-sol (66) Han Jin-seon (68) and Jang Eun-soo (68) were equal runner-up at the Empire Hotel and Country Club course in Jerudong. The tournament was tri-sanctioned by the China LPGA Tour, the Brunei Darussalam Golf Association and the LPGA of Korea Tour. Thailand’s Supamas Sangchan closed with her best round of the week, 5-under 66, to finish sixth at 11-under, best among the CLPGA Tour regulars. Chen Liqin (70), Sui Xiang (71) and Luo Ying (72) were the top Chinese players, tied for equal 52nd at 1-under.
