Morton bags hat-trick with new steakhouse

FOLLOWING the success of two of Morton’s signature brands, Morton’s The Steakhouse in Pudong’s ifc mall and Morton’s Steak and Seafood Grille in iamp mall on Huaihai Road M., Morton’s has opened its third restaurant, Morton’s Grille in the Raffles City, Changning District, near Zhongshan Park.

Keeping with the authentic DNA of the Morton’s family, Morton’s Grille is the youngest member of the clan and is stylish enough for an in-crowd, yet casual enough for the unassuming. The menu retains the classic dishes one comes to expect from Morton’s The Steakhouse, yet it is fused with innovative dishes. The result is a casual, non-pretense place to grab a comforting lunch or enjoy a good quality steak dinner.

Morton’s Grille Shanghai is the fifth in the chain worldwide. The other ones can be found in Woodlands, Guangzhou, Niagara Falls and Suzhou. It proudly offers a menu, which features three types of USDA Prime cuts steak, fresh seafood, succulent burgers and hearty salads, to local gourmets.

Before starting dinner, I picked a seasonal cocktail, Baked Apple Sour, a cozy bourbon based drink that is composed of bourbon, lemon, maple syrup, apple juice and a slice of apple. A glass of Morton’s Grille cocktails is a comforting concoction to start a pleasant dinner.

The restaurant is proud of its bar and bar bites so they offer the Power Hour (4pm-7pm, Monday to Sunday), including house wine (38 yuan/US$5.78/glass), draft beer (28 yuan) and a selection of classic cocktails and martinis (38 yuan).

My dinner started with the popular Grille Platter (158/per person), including shrimp diablo, buffalo chicken meatball, house-made x rib and jumbo lump crab cake. It is one of Morton’s original classics and a good option if you want to taste a bit of everything. However I came to Morton’s for some of the best meat in town and I opted for the USDA Prime center-cut ribeye (340g/518 yuan). Perfectly charred medium rare, it just proved again Morton’s is a rock solid steakhouse. The nutty and buttery notes were naturally savored in every bite and the only detectable seasonings were salt and pepper. The all-time favorite hot chocolate cake also didn’t disappoint.

On the first floor, there is also a state-of-the-art open kitchen where you can watch the chef meticulously crafting every dish.
