Feminine meets masculine casual combo

SARA Esnaashari was born in Tehran and raised in Toronto, she attended OCAD University before moving to China and embarking on a career in Interior Design. After six years working with international brands from all over the world and designing more than 50 stores in China, she opened ESNA BOX, the modern day gifting solution.

My personal style is feminine meets masculine. I love unexpected combinations, be it food, design or fashion. A trouser suit with a feminine edge, dressed-up denim, bold accessories with neutrals, head-to-toe monochromatic and sneakers worn with anything but gym clothes.

The best outfit I’ve ever worn for a special occasion was my wedding dress. It was an haute couture Atelier Pronovias dress with exquisite detailing and intricate embroidery. And its timeless design blurred the line between classic elegance and contemporary.

I try not to follow fashion trends, but trends seep into my subconscious as I follow many style icons, bloggers and designers. I have nothing against adding a few trendy pieces to my wardrobe every season. Trends are sometimes fun, but when it comes to incorporating the newest trendy items into my everyday style, I have to wait for ones that sing to me. I cannot force myself into something that doesn’t feel me.

I usually don’t shop for clothing in China other than a few fast fashion brands like COS, Zara and Club Monaco. However, when it comes to accessories, I can always find something that I like in the little boutiques all over this city or online.

My favorite fashion brand is Celine.

The designers I most admire are Phoebe Philo and Tom Ford.

The style icon I look up to is Bianca Jagger. I love her modern, rock and roll style. However, I am also inspired by more recent style icons like Olivia Palermo and Giovanna Battaglia.

The last item I added to my wardrobe was a beautiful pair of vintage red stone cross dangle Chanel earrings.

The fashion item I’m eying next is a natural color sea Baroque pearl necklace. I am waiting for the right occasion to splurge.

I love collecting antiques, especially the items that have been in my family for generations so now I have a small collection in my apartment in Shanghai. However, when it comes to fashion and accessories, Chanel is by far my biggest vintage weakness. Over the past few years, I started collecting vintage Chanel earrings.

My grooming staples is to take my skincare routine seriously. I never leave the house without sunscreen, not only to protect my skin against the sun but also from computer radiation. When I am in Shanghai, my go-to sunscreen is Clarins UV PLUS Anti-Pollution Sunscreen. Also, at night, I never go to sleep without applying my Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Syrum.

My signature perfumes are Coco Mademoiselle by Chanel in spring, fall and winter and Dolce and Gabbana Dolce Floral Drops for the summer.

The best souvenir is a set of carved hand wooden chairs from Bali I bought with then boyfriend, now husband. He is the man of my dreams. We’ve been happily married for three years now.

The most memorable place I’ve traveled to was Italy, especially Tuscany since I got married there and had the best time of my life.

The best thing about living in Shanghai is the energy of the city.

The last book I’ve read was The Three-Body Problem.

Maxime Boureille is a proud ambassador of the French culture and “Art de Vivre,” through his job representing a renowned Chateau in Bordeaux, Lafite Rothschild. He spends most of his time travelling around China to promote his wines and champagnes. Passionate about travel and sport, he plays rugby with the Shanghai Dolphins, a great club to socialize and play for in Asia.

My personal style is definitely a suit and tie during weekdays for professional purposes. When I go out with my friends I prefer to be relaxed and wearing a shirt or polo T-shirt. But as soon as I get home, I am in a rugby short.

The best outfit I’ve ever worn for a special occasion was a white linen outfit for a white party at Domaine Les Crayères, a luxury hotel and gourmet restaurant in a classic French Château in Reims, which does make you feel like a prince for a night of craziness. Beautiful crowd, amazing wines and champagnes until sunrise — unforgettable!

I follow fashion trends through Instagram, Pinterest and from people walking in the streets.

I usually shop for clothes and accessories in Paris. I do not go very often so the car is completely full every time I do.

If I have to limit my shopping to one neighborhood in Shanghai, that would be the tree-lined downtown area. All these little shops and the atmosphere reminds me of Paris.

My favorite fashion brand is Lacoste, whether it is for a drink with friends or to play golf. The Polo T-shirt with every color is timeless.

The designer I most admire is Ralph Lauren. He gave men the classic Polo logo embossed shirt in 1968 which became a must-have ever since. It’s very classy and elegant for every occasion.

The style icons I look up to are movie celebrities. I love going to the cinema. My favorite actors are Johnny Depp, Ben Affleck and Ryan Gosling.

The last item I added to my wardrobe was a suit from the Fabric Market in Shanghai. I was really surprised about the quality and the price. I know where to buy my next gifts.

The fashion item I’m eying next is a business bag from Longchamp. My mom would be jealous, it’s her favorite brand.

My grooming staples are my cream to hydrate my skin and the wax I put on my hair.

My signatures perfumes are Bleu de Channel and La Nuit de l’Homme, Yves Saint Laurent.

The best souvenir I brought home is a Hong Kong sevens jersey from a few months ago, which is the biggest rugby’s sevens tournament in the world. We spent a few days in Hong Kong with my rugby team from Shanghai, The Dolphins. I needed few days to fully recover afterward.

The most memorable place I have traveled in the past was Cambodia, a few weeks ago. The warm, authentic and homey people amazed me. To see the dazzling smiles of young Cambodians from the countryside was an unforgettable memory. I understand why Angkor’s majestic temples are listed among the 7seven wonders of the world. Breathtaking!

The best thing about living in Shanghai is the freedom, the people, the Bund and definitely because it’s close to so many amazing destinations in Asia.

The last book I read was WSET, about my passion: wine and Champagne. It was interesting to learn about the specificities of each region, grapes varieties and terroir around the world.

Besides Shanghai, I would love to live in New York. Jay-Z and Scarlett Johansson live there so it must be amazing.
