China’s largest automaker, SAIC Motor Co, sold a total of 7.05 million vehicles in 2018, up 1.75 percent year on year, according to data released by the company on Friday.

Sales of SAIC's self-owned brand Roewe and MG reached 701,900 units in 2018, up 34.45 percent year on year. SAIC Motor said that the growth rate represents its leading position in the industry.

Sales of new-energy vehicles became a highlight in the overall sales performance of SAIC Motor in 2018. Sales of new-energy vehicles under the brand totalled 140,000 units last year, a jump of more than 120 percent year on year.

In 2018, SAIC's vehicle exports and overseas sales exceeded 270,000 units, an increase of 62.2 percent year-on-year.

SAIC also performed well in the car-sharing sector in 2018. The company unveiled its ride-hailing brand, Xiangdao Chuxing, in December last year. The company has a fleet of 1,400 vehicles under operation across China so far.

EVCARD, the largest car-sharing operator in China and owned by SAIC Motor, has been available in 64 cities and boasts 45,000 vehicles. EVCARD now has more than 4 million registered users and over 90,000 daily orders, the company said.
