BMW's China X2 production to begin this year

German automaker BMW will begin production of its X2 sports activity coupe this year in in Shenyang Province as it eyes expansion in the world's largest car market, the company said yesterday. 

The company plans to launch 21 new models in the Chinese market, where it sees huge potential in the luxury segment.

BMW sold 2.5 million vehicles worldwide — a quarter of them in China.

BMW is also boosting its focus on new-energy vehicles, autonomous driving, connectivity and other emerging sectors in China.

It expects sales of electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles will grow at about 50 percent year on year in 2019.
