Tik Tok, a Chinese mini music-video app also known as Douyin, doubled the number of its daily active users in Japan during the summer.

Since it made its Japanese debut in 2017, Tik Tok’s daily active user base doubled in June and July year on year, the company said, citing figures from researcher App Ape.

Tik Tok boasted more than 100 million overseas users by July, said ByteDance, the parent firm of Toutiao and Douyin.

Japanese consumers like the 15-second video app, which integrates music, social media and fashion snippets. Many pop stars and singers, such as Japanese celebrities like E-girls and Kyary Pamyu Pamyu, have Tik Tok accounts which have drawn thousands of fans.
