Thanks to its wide healthcare network, PingAn Healthcare Management Company said that it is aiming to offer better service like making appointments and delivering targeted medicines for cancer patients together with insurance firms.

Cancer patients in China have to pay out-of-pocket costs for long-term specific medicine treatment, as targeted drugs are relatively expensive and the country’s basic social medical insurance does not cover all these medicines.

Targeted drugs are used to cure people at the terminal stage of tumors.

To better help these group and lessen their burdens, Ping An Annuity Insurance Company of China Ltd unveiled a new medical insurance policy last month together with PingAn Healthcare.

Under the plan, tumor customers will get their relevant medical expenses covered and enjoy services ranging from making appointment, surgery and hospitalization assistance to special medicine consultation and distribution.

Zheng Yi, the chief medical officer at Ping An Healthcare, said that they have built a medical service network covering 159 hospitals and 1,212 experts in 30 cities.

“Once a patient is diagnosed with a tumor, we will make an appointment for him with a tumor specialist in a tertiary hospital within the promised time limit,” Zheng added.

Patients can seek around-the-clock consultation with the company’s hotline. Ping An Healthcare will send staff to assist their customers with medicine buying and delivery. The firm said it has partnered with 327 pharmaceutical stores spreading in 157 cities.
