Ping An Medical and Healthcare Management Co Ltd (Ping An HealthKonnect) will commit itself to building a tech-powered service platform for managed health care, especially by leveraging cloud computing technology, the company said yesterday.

China’s medical and health care sector is currently confronted with several key technological challenges such as isolated medical information, inconsistent data standards and poor connections with data platforms, said Yang Weidong, chief technology officer at Ping An HealthKonnect, at the SMART tech conference held by its parent company Ping An Group.

To resolve such problems, Yang said that they are moving to advanced technologies like cloud computing to link information on medical treatment, health insurance and the pharmaceutical industry as well as the patients and connect and synergize data within the health care ecosystem.

On  “data governance”, Ping An HealthKonnect is working on extracting original information from a patient’s medical history, then parse, clean, transform and export them into standardized data from their cloud-based platform.

The health care arm of Ping An also aims to offer comprehensive smart solutions and technical support for providers of social health insurance, private insurance and medical services.

As of the end of October, the Shanghai-based firm has partnered with more than 200 cities spanning over 20 provinces throughout the country and provided them with services ranging from cost control and actuarial services to medical resource management and health record applications.

Ping An HealthKonnect said it will make further efforts to help better meet the public’s health care needs and help the government reduce medical spending, expand insurance coverage and improve the medical service experience.
