Haitong Securities has donated 20 disinfection robots to Shanghai hospitals and the medical teams sent from the city to aid Wuhan during the novel coronavirus outbreak.

The robots were designed and manufactured by TMiRob, a robot maker based in Shanghai’s Zhangjiang High-Tech Park.

They can move freely around hospitals and return to recharge. Equipped with UV light, hydrogen peroxide and plasma air purifiers, they can disinfect every corner and are smart enough to implement different disinfection plans based on how large and how infected areas are.

The robots were delivered to the Shanghai Public Clinical Center, Zhongshan Hospital and Ruijin Hospital on Tuesday. Some will work in local wards, while others will be sent to Wuhan, capital of Hubei Province and epicenter of the coronavirus outbreak.

Haitong hopes they can contribute to the fight against the epidemic and safeguard front-line medical workers.

So far, the company and its subsidiaries have donated medical devices and anti-epidemic goods worth more than 17.37 million yuan (US$2.5 million).

Subsidiary Fullgoal Fund has poured 2 million yuan into a “salute to angels in white,” a special fund established earlier this year to support front-line medics.

On International Women’s Day last Sunday, the company sent gifts to the hundreds of female medical workers from Ruijin Hospital who are in Wuhan.
