Home appliance giant Skyworth will focus on 5G and 8K to enrich its smart home ecosystem, the company said recently.

Skyworth plans to invest 1.5 billion yuan (US$210 million) in its ecosystem over the coming years, including a 5G-enabled 8K recorder and a flagship model TV S81 Pro with improved gaming and WiFi features.

Consumers are not satisfied with single-function products; instead they want improved experiences and services based on an ecosystem, said Wang Zhiguo, Skyworth’s chairman and president.

The new era of 5G and Internet of Things (IoT) brings challenges and opportunities for the home appliance industry, especially during the coronavirus outbreak.

Skyworth's smart TV, the G81, features AI functions, optimization for gamers and a pop-up camera specially designed for video conferences, which is useful for remote work, digital entertainment and online education during the COVID-19 outbreak.

Skyworth also launched new products including a tablet panel connecting various devices and an 8K recorder supporting livestreaming by 5G.
