Sunmi opens first flagship store in Shanghai

Sunmi opens its first flagship store in Shanghai on Tuesday.

The need for digital upgrading is increasing after the coronavirus pandemic, according to digital solutions provider Sunmi, which opened its first flagship store in Shanghai on Tuesday.

The store is at Hopson One, a premium shopping mall in Wujiaochang of Yangpu District, which is also home innovation business hub KIC and other high-tech firms.

“The pandemic has changed the business modes and people’s lifestyle, and the integration of online and offline business is the future trend," said Cao Xi, vice director of Yangpu District. "Only by embracing more innovative and advanced operation modes can offline businesses run on a sustainable track."

“Sunmi helps merchants digitally upgrade their shops and plays an important role in making the Wujiaochang business hub smarter,” he added.

Jack Lin, founder and CEO of Sunmi, said: "In less than seven year, Sunmi has grown to a company with several thousand staff from just a dozen people and has brought our products to 203 countries and regions worldwide, which indicates the market demand for digital upgrade is booming.

“Driven by merchants’ strong demand for digital upgrading accelerated by the pandemic, the firm plans  to open about 20 stores this year.”

Due to the pandemic, the company said, sales of one of its digital products doubled in the second quarter thanks to the surging demand for takeout services.
