Shanghai will launch business entity checks from August to December in preparation for the fourth economic census.

According to the Shanghai Statistics Bureau, the checks aim to comprehensively reflect development scale, layout and benefits of secondary and tertiary industries across the city.

This task will help accurately define the objects and types of the census, as well as clearly defining the registration responsibilities of relevant departments and organizations at all levels, so as to lay the foundation for the upcoming work of the economic census, the bureau said.

The census will cover all businesses, including impersonal entities, industrial activity units and self-employed entrepreneurs involved in secondary and tertiary industries.

The bureau urges businesses to actively cooperate during checks, so as to help the Shanghai government "better grasp the economic pulse of the city, and to make concerted efforts to create a better life."
