President Xi Jinping said during the keynote speech at the opening ceremony of the second China International Import Expo that China will strive to build an open world economy.

“Economic globalization represents the historical trends and none of the problems confronting the world economy can be resolved by a single country alone," he said.

He called on countries and organizations to put the common good of humanity first, rather than place individual interests above the common interest of all.

He also spoke highly of the new progress for a number of national strategies, including three specific tasks he announced during last year's CIIE, namely the setting up of the new Lingang Special Area of the China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone, the launch of a sci-tech innovation board and pilot registration system, and an integrated development plan for the Yangtze River Delta region.

"This shows that China honors our commitments and delivers on what we promised," he said.

He also proposed to continually bring down trade barriers, and also urged various sides to work together with innovation, to facilitate science and technology and increase sharing of results, and also promised to work in real earnestness to implement the UN 2030 agenda for sustainable development.
