Business in Jiading is gradually returning to normal with merchants offering various promotions to inject vitality into the consumer market.

Imix Park shopping mall recently launched a “Spring Recovery Plan,” with a series of activities that included lucky draws and discounts in order to stimulate consumption and boost the market.

In addition, the mall also halved the rents for merchants, a total of more than 7 million yuan (US$1 million).

All merchants except for cinemas, KTVs and training institutions have opened their doors and resumed operation, and the passenger flow and turnover have returned to about 50 percent of what it was before the outbreak, according to a mall spokesman.

All Jiading’s large shopping malls have seen a gradual rise in customers.

The number of visitors to the Bailian Jiading Shopping Center at weekends has returned to around 60 percent of what is was before the COVID-19 outbreak.

In order to promote sales, the shopping center opened an “online mini shop” for cosmetics, clothing, tonics and other products, with online self-selection and contactless distribution to attract shoppers.

“We have been to the restaurant many times, and the food is very good. The coupons are more cost-effective and save a lot of money for me. Curry dish is my favorite,” a visitor left a message on Meituan Dianping app after eating at a Southeast Asian restaurant in the district.

Most of the clients have used vouchers or group coupons, and the response has been good, a member of staff at the restaurant said.

Many merchants in Jiading have taken part in online promotional activities launched by Alipay. Apart from catering, life and entertainment, beauty salons, wedding photography shops, some western-style fast food, hot pot and other restaurants have also joined promotion activities.

Leading online shopping portal JD.com, which is based in Jiading, also opened a special area for anti-virus commodities and have issued vouchers worth 100 million yuan so far.

Online shoppers can use the vouchers to buy various products, including digital home appliances, food and drinks, personal care and fashion.
