Shanghai will kick off its longest shopping festival tomorrow with more than 20,000 retail outlets taking part in the annual event now in its 12th year.

Running 45 days through November 11, the festival will include the launch of 10 shopping routes designed to meet the demands of different consumers, country-themed product sales and events as well as product debuts, according to the Shanghai Commission of Commerce.

“For the first time, we will introduce specially designed shopping routes to satisfy the demand of various consumers from both home and abroad,” said Liu Min, vice director of the commission.

“The 10 routes feature first brand stores, flagship stores, trendy brand and concept stores, time-honored brand stores, commercial landmarks, featured cuisine, nightlife areas, outlet villages and tax refund stores.”

To coincide with the November 5-10 China International Import Expo in the city, various art, cultural, shopping and entertainment activities featuring the UK, Germany, Italy, Spain, Finland, Sweden, Australia, Thailand and Japan will be held, according to the commission.

Shopping hours at landmark shopping malls in the Nanjing Road Pedestrian Mall, including New World City, Shanghai No.1 Department Store and Shanghai New World Daimaru, will be extended tomorrow from 10pm to 11pm.
