Agricultural firms harvest rising shares

Increase in prices of pork helps fatten up stockmarket

Shanghai stocks edged up today following a strong performance by agricultural shares.

The Shanghai Composite Index added 0.07 percent to end at 3,281.87 points.

Agricultural shares, led by firms dealing with pork, rose strongly due to the rapid increase of pork prices since August.

Muyuan Foods Co Ltd gained by the daily limit of 10 percent to 32.12 yuan as did  Chuying Agro-Pastoral to 4.79 yuan and Liaoning Wellhope Agri-Tech Ltd to 9.76 yuan.

Information technology shares also rose, with Longshine Technology up 9.99 percent to 12.77 yuan and Iflytek Co Ltd adding 6.55 percent to 48.51 yuan.
