Banking group seeks further reform

Shanghai Banking Association celebrates its centennial with the ritual of filling sand into a broad, which has a symbolic meaning of eternity.

Shanghai Banking Association released a declaration to celebrate its centennial, calling for stronger commitment and more innovation in banking sector reform.

It also says it will stick to its original determination to promote self-discipline among members for healthy growth in banks, bear responsibility for accelerating social progress, encourage a practical spirit and embrace reform.

And it calls for more talent to join the association for better development of the non-profitable and non-governmental industry organization.

The association, whose members are banks and non-banking financial institutions, says it is committed to building itself into a highly professional and international trade body by practicing self-discipline, protecting rights and offering services to members.

At the end of June it had 222 members, including banks, trust companies and financial leasing companies, among other financial institutions.

To celebrate its 100th anniversary, the association also published two books, one on its history and the other a collection of photographs.
