Wesure seeks to get more people covered by private insurance

Alan Lau, chairman and chief executive officer of Wesure

Wesure, an insurance brokerage company affiliated to Tencent, announced on Thursday that it aims to enhance the public’s risk quotient by lowering the threshold for buying insurance policies and launching more quality products in the near future.

The company plans to introduce around 20 selected or customized insurance products by working together with underwriters in 2019, both old and new, and providing more intelligent and professional services for policy-holders, Alan Lau, chairman and chief executive officer of Wesure said.

Wesure said it will make efforts to improve public risk awareness by popularizing basic concepts from the insurance industry and sending more smart recommendations and advice to users on its platform on how to seek better coverage.

To make it easier for more people to be covered by private insurance, the platform rolled out an inclusive medical insurance plan this October together with PingAn Annuity Insurance Company and Taikang Online P&C Insurance Co Ltd.  Under the scheme, customers can receive as much as 500,000 yuan in medical payments if they end up with a critical illness, while it costs only 5 yuan per month for people under the age of 40.

The product is designed to offer better private medical protection for people with low-and-medium incomes, Wesure added. Compared with other medical plans, the product has very loose requirement for a person’s health conditions, which will make it much easier for him or her to be covered.
