Those born in the 1990s made over half of the claims for health insurance in the first six months, a report by ZhongAn Online Property and Casualty Insurance said on Thursday.

As of the end of June 2019, ZhongAn Online saw the number of health insurance claims jumped by 180 percent year on year. And post-1990s generation policyholders filed 54.5 percent of the claims, with the proportion of male cases (52 percent) higher than that of their female counterpart.

In terms of compensation amount, medical treatment accounted for nearly 70 percent, followed by critical diseases (12.6 percent) and death (10.8 percent), the report said.

Diseases with relatively high compensation include malignant tumors, heart/myocardial disease and fractures. Among them, lung, breast and thyroid were the top three malignant tumors for the covered, ZhongAn Online noted.

Around 90 percent of the cases were handled online.

Traditionally, it usually takes three to 30 days for compensations to arrive. ZhongAn is endeavoring to make claims much simpler and faster. In the near future, more users will get the payments within 30 minutes.

The insurance company also offers advance payments that cover over 2,000 hospitals.
