Chinese equities tumble

China’s main equity indexes sank heavily on Monday. At the close of market hours, the Shanghai Composite Index ended down 1.83 percent to 2,909.97 points, while the Shenzhen Component Index lost 2.17 percent to 9,680.57 points. The blue chip CSI300 index dropped 1.76 percent to 3,902.98 points.

In total, only 315 individual shares gained and 3,361 shares lost on the two major bourses. Among the decliners, 150 individual shares shed over 5 percent.

The medical, communications and home appliances sectors were among the biggest losers. Shares of Hisense Kelon sank by 6.08 percent.

Turnover on the two major bourses totaled 422.99 billion yuan (US$60.4 billion), shrinking a bit from 434.93 billion yuan in the previous trading day.

On the STAR Market, only six companies posted gains while 45 companies declined. BrightGene Bio-Medical Technology Co Ltd led the gains and increased by 1.80 percent.
