Chinese equities climb amid rising turnover

Chinese equities rose on Thursday, and shares of telecommunications and software firms led the gains.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index added 0.74 percent to 2,899.56 points, the Shenzhen Component Index gained 1.15 percent to 9,799.07 points, and the blue chip CSI300 index ended the day up 0.77 percent at 3,879.54 points.

Turnover on the two major bourses totaled 423.8 billion yuan (US$59.95 billion), expanding from 355.7 billion yuan in the previous session.

Shares of telecommunications operators, security equipment and software service firms performed strongly.

Precious metals, Jewelry dealers and the agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry and fishery sector suffered the biggest loss.

On the new STAR market, most companies advanced with 41 firms posting gains. The largest percentage gainer was Jiangsu Bioperfectus Technologies, focused on molecular diagnostic techniques.
