Tencent’s insurance platform WeSure announced a strategic cooperation with Sinopharm Group and MedTree Health Technology on Monday, aiming to offer better protection solutions by integrating private insurance and the health industry.

The three parties plan to carry out in-depth cooperation and innovation in inclusive insurance projects, drugs, private insurance and patient service.

In March 2020, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council issued the "Opinions on Deepening the Reform of the Medical Security System,” stating that "by 2030, a comprehensive multi-level medical security system with basic medical insurance as the main body, medical assistance as the foundation will be developed.”

WeSure said it is committed to promoting inclusive commercial insurance across the country, and creating an Internet-based closed-loop solution ranging from drug purchase and distribution to inclusive protection plans and patient health management services.

The Shenzhen-based insurance agency platform made similar attempts in April 2019.

Aiming to relieve patients’ burden of affording expensive anticancer drugs, WeSure unveiled a new policy for patients with cancer in conjunction with insurer Taikang Online and MediTrust Health, a subsidiary of Shanghai Pharmaceutical (Group) Co which offers medical payment services.
