The former Rainbow Hotel is now named Golden Tulip Shanghai Rainbow as Jin Jiang International Holdings Co launched the new brand.

China's Jin Jiang International Holdings Co Ltd, the fifth-largest hotel group in the world, officially launched the newly-positioned Golden Tulip brand in the country today with the soft opening of the Golden Tulip Shanghai Rainbow.

Rebranded from the former Rainbow Hotel in the heart of the city's Hongqiao development zone, the 600-room property is the global flagship of the 4-star Golden Tulip brand which was first launched in 1962 in the Netherlands.
“We hope to grow our China portfolio to 20 hotels, both under operation and in the development pipeline, by the end of next year ,” said Peter L Herweck, president of Golden Tulip China.

Jin Jiang will open two more Golden Tulip hotels in prime locations in Shanghai in the next couple of months.

Over the next three to five years, the brand’s portfolio will be expanded to around 300 hotels regionally in Asia, with more than half of them in China, Herweck added. Globally, Golden Tulip boasts a network of over 180 hotels, or 24,000 rooms, in more than 40 countries.
Jin Jiang International acquired Louvre Hotels Group and the Golden Tulip with it in February 2015.
