Shanghai’s Internet watchdog said today that it has shut down a WeChat account that released fake news on the real estate market.
The account, Shanghai Real Estate Trade Consultation Center, had been publishing fake stories that misled the public, causing harmful social impact, the Shanghai Cyberspace Administration said.
The account was shut down according to Chinese laws and regulations, the administration said, adding that it will step up efforts in cracking down on such accounts, especially those who register after the name of official government institutions.
