Xintiandi is among businesses communities implementing a number of virus prevention measures to ensure a clean, safe and comfortable environment for shoppers amid the ongoing battle against coronavirus-related pneumonia.

The health and safety of customers and employees must always come first, Shanghai Xintiandi said in a statement on Thursday.

Anyone entering its malls must wear face masks and have their temperature checked. Employees are required to have daily temperature checks while outside staff, including couriers and food delivery workers, should also be checked and register their details.

Elevators and escalators, restrooms, entrances and exits, floor mats, basements, drainage and other facilities are being sterilized repeatedly every day.

Shui On Land Ltd, developer and operator of the landmark social and cultural destination in Huangpu District, earlier announced a 10 million yuan (US$143 million) donation to the Red Cross Society of China’s Wuhan branch as well as plans to waive or reduce rents for commercial tenants at all of its projects to help brick-and-mortar retailers whose businesses have been hit hard by the drop in foot traffic due to the epidemic.
