Vivo, one of China’s top five smartphone brands, aims to expand into the high-end segment of the market with a model that features a unique in-display fingerprint technology and artificial intelligence, Shanghai Daily learned today.

The company launched its new flagship model X21 that comes with an under-glass fingerprint sensor that made Vivo the world’s first brand to adopt the feature. Embedding the sensor under the glass screen of the phone offers users a wider viewable space and is said to also make it easier to unlock and pay by fingerprint.

The X21 comes under a new sub-brand called Jovi that focuses on AI in navigation, parking, and photography as well as being able to answer questions and offers smart suggestions.

The X21 will be available from March 28 at 3,598 yuan (US$562), the highest price among all Vivo models in its history.
