Didi has formed an alliance with carmakers and auto service providers to promote new energy vehicles and smart mobility solutions in China.

The “DiDi Auto Alliance” will gather resources and tap the strengths of key players in the auto industry chain with the aim of  providing a vehicle operator platform that fits with the ongoing revolution in transport.

The alliance comprises BAIC Group, SAIC Motor, Bosch, Volkswagon and Chery as well as auto service providers CHJ Automotive, Navinfo and SKIO Matrix Co.

Didi aims to serve 2 billion riders globally within the next 10 years and seeks to drive the design and manufacturing of new energy vehicles that are more suitable for ride-sharing services to match and link riders with drivers in a more cost-efficient way, said Cheng Wei, founder and CEO of the company.

Last year 260,000 new energy vehicles were registered on the Didi platform, according to Cheng.

The alliance may also collaborate on smart driving technologies and construction of charging stations to enhance the popularity of electric vehicles.

It will also work with auto service companies on auto leasing and sales, auto finance, auto service, fleet operation and car-sharing solutions.

On Monday, Didi began offering its services in the Mexican city of Toluca as it takes another step into the Latin America market after it bought Brazilian ride-hailing firm 99 last year.
