First L4 driverless cars with Baidu AI tech enter production
The first L4 driverless vehicle model equipped with Baidu's AI technology platform Apollo has been put into commercial production by Fujian-headquartered King Long United.
King Long chairman Xie Siyu showcased the production site in Xiamen via live-streaming at the Baidu Create 2018 AI Developer Conference in Beijing on Monday.
The L4 level automated driving technology is the second highest level that can operate without human oversight under selected road conditions or geographic environments.
It's only the beginning for the evolution of driverless vehicles, said Baidu Founder and Chairman Robin Li. "We will continue our efforts to allow our open platform of data and algorithms to be accessible to developers around the world," he said.
Baidu will continue to build out its newer AI-enabled initiatives through an open platform and ecosystem approach to nurture long-term economic opportunities.
King Long's Xie said the first batch of 100 King Long driverless buses equipped with Baidu's AI platform Apollo will soon be delivered to Beijing, Xiongan, Shenzhen, Pingtan and Tokyo for commercial operation.
