AI will be widely used in projection, photography and charging functions in smartphones, Shanghai-based startup Green Orange have announced.

Green Orange launched a smartphone model, the Voga 2, which integrates laser projection and AI. In the vision sector covering projection and photography, Chinese smartphone brands have adopted the latest AI technologies, Zhang Yan, chief executive of Green Orange said.

“It’s a strategic decision for us to invest in AI-featured vision features, especially laser projection,” Zhang said.

With six AI features covering projection, photography and power management, the Voga 2 costs 6,888 yuan (US$1,013). The company will also expand overseas markets in the classified segment of laser projection phones, targeting high-end consumers.

Within one or two years, smartphones will become more intelligent with self-learning abilities, with AI technology development and increased data flows, industry insiders said.

Firms like Oppo, Vivo and Xiaomi have also developed an AI chat assistant to explore AI services.

Founded in 2012, Green Orange is one of the local startups focusing on laser projection and intelligent vision services.

Shanghai, with its “AI highland” strategy, has launched various policies to offer better conditions and a better business environment for AI development. The city aims to develop its AI industry into a 100-billion-yuan industry by 2020, compared with 70 billion yuan last year.
