The Shanghai government signed a partnership agreement with NetEase on Friday to deepen the cooperation in cross-border e-commerce, e-sports and other key areas, as well as set up the technology firm's headquarters in the city.

NetEase company develops and operates some of China’s most popular personal computer and mobile games, advertising services, e-mail services and e-commerce platforms.

Shanghai Party Secretary Li Qiang said its business scope and industrial layout aligned with the direction of the city's development, and the two sides have broad prospects for cooperation.

Ding Lei, chairman and chief executive officer of NetEase, said Shanghai has a good business environment, abundant resources and global talent, which provides a great platform for enterprises.

“NetEase will take this opportunity to promote areas including cross-border e-commerce, cultural and creative industries as well as e-sports, in order to make contributions to Shanghai’s four brands," Ding said.
