Alibaba brings import expo goods to Lujiazui with pop-up stores
Alibaba's Tmall Global will host a pop-up store to commemorate the opening of the first China International Import Expo that will introduce countries hosting import goods.
A total of six specialty zones featuring imported goods from England, Spain, Italy, Denmark, Indonesia and Canada will be on display from Friday to November 6 at the Shanghai Oriental Pearl TV Tower in the Lujiazui area.
Interactive activities will also be put into place to attract consumers, as the e-commerce company seeks to bring imported goods towards offline channels to cover a wider range of shoppers.
The offline exhibition space is also a part of the online shopping site's plan to correspond with the China International Import Expo's initiative to introduce more imported merchandise to a wider market.
Some of the products are also expected to become part of a long-term exhibition to allow consumers to get a closer peek at the latest imports.
Tmall International has set up six procurement centers around the world to help boost the profile of these brands.
Alibaba Group is also part of the CIIE's procurement alliance to help introduce imported brands at the expo.
Deloitte China, the China Chamber of International Commerce (CCOIC) and AliResearch said in a joint report that the import proportion of total e-commerce sales soared to 10.2 percent in 2017, from just 1.6 percent in 2014.
AliResearch’s data shows the number of Tmall Global consumers grew ten-fold from 2014 to 2017.
As the Singles Day Shopping Festival enters its 10th year next week, it's also mobilizing offline retail partners and business affiliates to offer a diversified shopping experience to participants.
