Huawei Chief Financial Officer Meng Wanzhou's bail hearing has been deferred till Tuesday after a Canadian court could not reach a decision during the second-day hearing on Monday, according to China Global Television Network, the English-language arm of China's state broadcaster CCTV.

The hearing will resume on Tuesday at 10:00am local time, the judge said, reported CGTN.

Canadian prosecution has argued that Meng is a "flight risk" and should be denied bail while Meng's lawyer has proposed an electronic ankle bracelet and strict surveillance, the report said.

During the hearing, Meng's lawyers also proposed a C$15 million (US$11.3 million) bail guarantee for her release, according to CGTN.

Meng, also the daughter of Huawei founder, was detained while traveling from Hong Kong to Mexico via Canada at the request of the US on December 1, the report said.

The move was part of a US investigation into an alleged scheme to use the global banking system to evade US sanctions against Iran, however, the US has failed to provide any evidence to prove its allegations, CGTN said.

China has condemned the detention and demanded Canada to release Meng, according to CGTN.

"Unreasonable" arrest

China's stance on this issue is clear, said Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lu Kang at a regular press conference on Monday, referring to the "unreasonable" arrest of Meng, CGTN reported.

"It's up to the Canadian side," said the spokesperson, in response to "curious" questions on what consequences Canada will face, according to the report.

If the Canadian side doesn't deal with the issue properly, it will face severe consequences, according to China's Vice Foreign Minister Le Yucheng who summoned the Canadian Ambassador to China John McCallum on Saturday, CGTN said.

On Sunday, Le also summoned the US Ambassador to China Terry Branstad, to lodge solemn representations and strongly protest the arrest of Meng, said the report.

"Online debate on Meng's citizenship is meaningless," said Lu, clarifying that the Huawei CFO is a Chinese citizen based on the Nationality Law of the People's Republic of China. And the Canadian side has admitted this, the spokesperson repeated, CGTN reported.

"According to the consular agreement reached between Canada and China, when a Chinese citizen is arrested by the Canadian government, the Chinese embassy should be notified immediately," said Lu, CGTN said.

"However, the Chinese side didn't get the notice," lamented Lu, according to the report.

"What has been done to Meng is inhumane and is a violation of human rights," said the spokesperson, the report said.
