A nation-level industrial Internet identification system debuts today in Shanghai, which will become a new growth engine in the Yangtze River Delta region in the digital transformation era.

The new system, called the National Top-level Identifier Resolution Node of Industrial Internet, offers authorized identification for various Internet of Things devices, like house address in streets and districts. Through the new system, the regulators, related firms and institutes can easily find and better use data to improve work efficiency and urban management.

It will be trialled initially in the machinery, fabrics, new materials, automotive and equipment manufacturing sectors in the Yangtze River Delta, across various regions and industries, said Zhang Ying, chief engineer of the Shanghai Commission of Economy and Information Technology.

The local commission, the Shanghai Communications Administration, the Shanghai Lingang Area Development Administration and the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology or CAICT signed an agreement to push development of the industrial Internet identification system. It starts operation today in Shanghai with sub-systems in firms like Huafon and SAIC, representing new materials and automotive applications.

The identification system is an essential part of the industrial Internet, which becomes “milestone and growth engine” for digital transformation with new applications like IoT, Sui Jing, a senior official at the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, said in Shanghai today.

In China, the nation-level systems are in five cities in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Wuhan and Chongqing.
