Alibaba announced on Wednesday that Taobao President Jiang Fan will also oversee Tmall business to drive synergies for both platforms, while former Tmall President Jet Jing will act as assistant to Chief Executive Officer Daniel Zhang.

The move aims to enhance its ability to serve shoppers and merchants by allowing Jiang to combine the consumer pool and better target different kinds of merchants on its retail platforms, and shoppers will also have a seamless experience, according to an email statement.

Jing will also lead a committee to better serve corporate customers for their transition in the digital era.

This comes after announcement of the e-commerce giant's restructuring plan in November last year, which involves its major sections such as cloud technology and Tmall embracing the smart Internet trend.

They seek to offer a holistic digital transformation solution to online vendors as well as physical retailers that better integrate consumers, products and services, as well as physical spaces and virtual communities.

Taobao and Tmall cover nearly 700 million consumers. The action plan will ensure a broader digitalization strategy to be in place to connect more brands and merchants from home and abroad.

An extensive digital and technology solution was unveiled by Alibaba in January this year which also marks the e-commerce company's progression from an online service provider to an integrated technology company that hopes to help market players enhance their efficiency and better target consumers.

Zhang will succeed Jack Ma's position of Alibaba's executive chairman of the board in September this year as Ma seeks to pursue education and environmental protection causes.
