In new abstract applications of artificial intelligence, clothes designed by AI appeared at a fashion show in Shanghai.

The AI fashion designer, developed by local startup DeepBlue Technology, "attended" the recent Shanghai International Competition of Innovative Fashion Design held recently, organized by the China National Garment Association and Shanghai City of Fashion.

Competing with 15 top fashion design schools from Europe and China, the AI designer took second prize with a set of “elegant and tasteful” designs, said the judges.

Designer and judge of the event Zhang Zhaoda said the AI design would not be out of place at any of the top fashion shows in the world.

Deepvogue is based on deep learning technology. It can process up to 20,000 colors.

AI algorithms are now able to operate in the realm of the subjective in "highly abstract industries” such as fashion, art and storytelling, said Deepblue CEO Anderson Chen.

In the near future, AI will provide fast, convenient and professional clothing, said Chen.

Core sectors in the artificial intelligence industry in Shanghai are expected to have an annual output of more than 100 billion yuan (US$15 billion) within two to three years.
