Drone vendor launches camera to rival GoPro devices
Drone vendor DJI sees China and the United States as the major target markets for its new camera, thanks to booming demand in sports, tourism and live broadcasting.
DJI's OSMO Action camera will be in direct competition with GoPro devices.
The new camera, at a starting price of 2,499 yuan (US$367.5), is mainly targeting China and US markets, which are expected to take 80 to 90 percent market shares of action camera, said DJI's Marketing Director Titans Xie. He said the demand is to be fueled by sports fans and video broadcasters in the coming 5G era, which will allow faster connections and easier sharing on social media.
“It’s not a just camera...It’s a package of photography services in the digital society,” Xie said in the company's flagship store in Xintiandi.
DJI’s new action camera employs new technologies on stabilizing photography, face tracking and water proof, which are already used in drones.
According to media reports, DJI is facing US administration’s Huawei-like sanctions.
“At DJI, safety is at the core of everything we do. We give all customers full and complete control over how their data is collected, stored, and transmitted,” the company said in a statement.
“We are committed to continuously working with our customers and industry and government stakeholders to ensure our technology adherers to all of their requirements,” it said.
