Amazon to expand and add new cloud services in China
Amazon will expand data center capacity and add new features for cloud business in China, the company said in Shanghai on Thursday.
Amazon now has two partners in China on its cloud services (AWS), Sinnet Cloud in Beijing and NWCD in Ningxia.
In Beijing, AWS has about 3,500 Cabinets now, which will hit 20,000 Cabinets in the future. Each Cabinet holds about 10 computer servers, basic infrastructure of Internet data centers and cloud service. In Ningxia, AWS has obtained more Chinese clients such as Tik Tok, and expanded overseas like regions along the Belt and Road.
Meanwhile, Amazon has added “several hundred” new features to AWS in China.
Amazon’s AWS is now the world’s top cloud service provider, followed by Microsoft’s Azure and Alibaba.
New services include Amazon Forecast and Amazon Personalize.
Chinese firms in the Internet and related sectors, whose business revenue exceeded 5 million yuan (US$725,000) last year, raked in 324.6 billion yuan from January to April, up 20.2 percent year on year, according to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).
Chinese Internet firms’ key applications including Internet data centers, cloud services and cloud storage maintained rapid growth in the first four months. Business revenue related to Internet data services came in at 3.35 billion yuan (US$493 million), up 33.9 percent, said the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
Guangdong, Shanghai and Beijing saw their Internet business revenue up 13.3 percent, 35.7 percent and 15.9 percent respectively year on year in the first four months.
