Collaboration is the only way forward
Tencent Chairman and Founder Ma Huateng has called for collaboration to take artificial intelligence to the next level.
"We're witnessing a more urgent need for governance of AI around the globe and strengthening collaboration is an essential part of AI development on a global level," he told the opening ceremony of the World Artificial Intelligence Conference.
AI, with real-life application across industries, will greatly boost market size over the next decade, Ma said.
Earlier this year, Tencent came up with the motto “Tech for Good” to describe the company’s vision and mission.
"Artificial intelligence shall preserve human moral standards and discipline and we're pleased to see that government agencies, academia and various stakeholders have now reached a consensus regarding the governance of AI," he said.
"Not one single party or country can possess the entire resources, capabilities and technology for AI development and therefore collaborative partnership is the only way forward," he said.
The company's AI research now includes public health and medical diagnosis and is in use at domestic hospitals.
Tencent's "T-Day" exhibition at Xuhui District through September 5 features some of these medical applications, time travel and space exploration all through AI. The history of Yuyuan Garden and shikumen will be shown through AI. Visitors will be able to watch classic movies in the Grand Theater and fireworks over the Lujiazui financial hub.
