China Mobile releases Nine Sky AI platform during WAIC.

Platforms and applications with integrated 5G and AI made debut at the ongoing World Artificial Intelligence Conference on Friday.

China Mobile, the world’s biggest mobile carrier, launched an artificial intelligence platform, Nine Sky (Jiu Tian) — the first nationwide AI platform by a telecommunications carrier. It allows China Mobile’s partners to develop applications using the carrier’s networks and capacities. China Mobile has 50,000 5G base stations, offering 5G service in 50 cities.

“The integration of 5G, AI and IoT creates a new ecosystem, connecting everyone and everything,” Wu Hequan from the Chinese Academy of Engineering told the forum on Friday.

The convergence of computing and telecommunications will boost innovation and applications such as AR/VR, robotics and industrial drones, Wu added.

At present, China Mobile offers 5G and AI applications in sectors including finance, health care and smart cities, Li told the forum.

5G is the foundation of connection and AI is the tool for realizing the intelligence of all connections.

"The dual-core, with the speed of 5G and the wisdom of AI, will release energy in Shanghai and Pudong,” said Weng Zuliang,  Party secretary of the Pudong New Area.

During the exhibition of WAIC, many 5G and AI applications are shown, such as remote surgery with high-definition video transmission and self-controlled drone connected by 5G.
