Oppo 5G device expected before year-end
Oppo has joined with China Telecom to offer trial 5G models to customers and the company is expected to release a 5G flagship model later this year, Shanghai Daily learned on Monday.
Oppo is also on track to invest 10 billion yuan (US$1.43 billion) on research into AI and 5G in 2019, compared with 4 billion yuan in 2018.
In the second quarter, Oppo had an 8.9-percent share of the global smartphone market, according to researchers IDC.
The Oppo Reno 2, which debuted recently in Shanghai, is currently the most popular model in the 2,000 to 3,000 yuan price range on several online platforms, such as JD.com and Sunning’s online store.
A 5G version of the Reno is expected to debut in the coming months.
