Huawei launches 5G flagship model in China
Huawei Technologies, the world’s No. 2 smartphone brand, has launched its 5G flagship model Mate 30 in the domestic market at a starting price of 3,999 yuan (US$571).
The company aims to consolidate its market position with the new model, despite a US technology ban, Richard Yu, CEO of Huawei Consumer Business Group, said in Shanghai.
In the first eight months, Huawei’s smartphone sales grew 26 percent year-on-year.
Overseas sales were influenced by the US ban, which forbids Google offering tools for Huawei smartphones, but global sales recovered in the latest quarters and it is expected to retain its leading market position in China, said Jia Mo, an analyst at researcher Canalys.
Huawei's Mate 30 Series is the world's first second generation of 5G smartphones. Apple doesn’t have a 5G phone in its latest models.
The new generation smartphone, equipped with an all new Kirin 990 5G processor, quad-core camera and large capacity battery, will bring enhanced user experience compared with rival models by Apple and Samsung, Yu said.
