Samsung opened its biggest store in China on Shanghai's Nanjing Road E. on Friday.

It has two floors and occupies a space of around 800 square meters. The company's latest smartphones and gadgets are on display along with a 5G corner featuring games and speed tests. Samsung currently leads in the new technology compared with other Android models and iPhone, which doesn't yet have a 5G model.

Globally, Samsung has 1,400 5G standard patents, more than other global smartphone vendors.

It has already released a 5G model of the Galaxy 10 Plus and, on Friday, launched a Galaxy A90 5G model costing from 4,499 yuan (US$642).

China issued commercial 5G licenses in June, triggering a new market for telecommunication devices and smartphone vendors. In August, Samsung was the first foreign brand to release a 5G phone in China.

The new store is opposite an Apple store and not far from a new Huawei store, an indication of the fierce competition in China, the world’s biggest smartphone market.

Samsung is still the world’s No. 1 mobile phone vendor but it has a limited market share in China compared with local rivals such as Huawei, Oppo and Vivo, according to analysts.

Samsung closed its smartphone production plants in China recently, according to media reports.
