Lenovo Group Ltd broke ground on a 2-billion-yuan (US$286 million) factory in Shenzhen as the computer giant’s South China smart manufacturing headquarters, Shanghai Daily learned on Thursday.

The 280,000-square-meter plant will produce computers, servers and other smart devices to be sold worldwide, China’s biggest computer maker said.

Within three years, the plant will have an annual capacity of 15 million laptops with a contribution to the whole industry chain worth 40 billion yuan, the company said.

Construction will focus on “efficiency, quality, speed and capacity,” Qiao Song, Lenovo’s senior vice president said, along with protective measures amid the coronavirus outbreak.
