The Shanghai United International School’s Wanyuan campus was established by the Xiehe Education Group in 2012 as one of six sister campuses across Shanghai. There are now additional campuses in Fujian, Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces. SUIS is Shanghai’s largest private provider of education from kindergarten to Grade 12. The Wanyuan campus is home to more than 2,000 students from grades 1 to 12. We offer a bilingual program to Primary and Middle School students and an English-based US High School program to students in grades 9 to 12.

Vision

SUIS Wanyuan’s US High School (USHS) facilitates a curriculum that helps students to achieve their full potential. With our “East meets West” approach, we adopt the best teaching practices from the east and west, while placing a strong emphasis on pastoral care and students’ emotional well-being, and providing differentiated learning paths tailored to each student’s strengths and potential.

Our teaching practices provide students with a platform to become independent, critical thinkers, and creative problem-solvers. We expect our students to graduate from SUIS Wanyuan as lifelong learners who are equipped with global competencies and who can positively contribute to make a difference in society.

Curricula

Using subject standards initiated in the United States (e.g. Common Core, Advanced Placement (AP), Next Generation Science Standards), our curricula prepare our students with strong content knowledge in a broad range of subjects. In addition to their participation in four Chinese subjects, our high school students engage in a broad, rigorous academic program that includes visual and performing arts, music and physical education courses. SUIS Wanyuan students participate in a variety of compulsory and elective subjects, and can choose from a broad range of Advanced Placement (AP) subjects: Biology, Calculus AB, Computer Science A, English Language and Composition, Human Geography, Macroeconomics, Physics 1&2, Statistics, Studio Art and World History.

Activities and athletics

Our US High School offers a wide variety of extra- and co-curricular activities including student-led and teacher-led clubs, visual and performing arts programs, STEM initiatives, and sports and social events. Students also have opportunities to participate in community service projects. Our membership in the Association of China and Mongolia International Schools (ACAMIS) and Shanghai School Sports Association (SSSA) provides our athletes with a wide range of interscholastic competition opportunities.

University guidance counselling

Comprehensive career and university guidance counselling services are offered to students from Grade 9 through to Grade 12, ensuring that students and parents make informed choices regarding admission to colleges and universities around the world. We host several large university fairs every year and receive frequent individual visits from reputable universities and colleges. Now in our fifth year of operations, our first three cohorts of graduating students have received offers from some of the best universities and colleges, primarily from those in the United States, Canada and UK.
