A retrospective exhibition of the “King of Comedy” Charlie Chaplin, co-produced by the Musée de l’Elysée (Lausanne), is underway at the Yuz Museum.

With over 300 photos and documents from the Chaplin archive and almost two hours of film clips, the exhibition “Charlie Chaplin: A Vision” aims to help viewers better understand the modernity of Chaplin and of his timeless character.

Chaplin is the founder of modern comedy and one of the most influential performing artists and film directors of the 20th century. His comical image with bowler hat, bamboo cane and small moustache is well known and deeply rooted worldwide.

The recipient of a special Oscar in 1928 for “The Circus” and an Academy Honorary Award in 1972, Chaplin made an immeasurable contribution to the development of film in the 20th century. He was also a famous pacifist and social activist.

Covering 60 years of the professional and private life of the artist, the exhibition explores the reasons behind his success, those that nourished his critical fortunes, and measures the role that the photographic image played in the prosperity of the legend.

Some photos show that Chaplin visited China, where the comedy master is beloved by the Chinese audiences through his films.
