“Beautiful roads for a better life,” a nature and geography documentary series paying tribute to the 40th anniversary of China’s reform and opening-up will air on Dragon TV at 10pm on October 22.

Produced by Yunji Media, the six-episode series looks at China’s road network which played an important role in social and economic development over the last four decades.

The crew traveled more than 70,000 kilometers around the country.

They visited innumerable important sites on the road network, which has a total length of around 4.8 million kilometers.

“Our roads are a spectacular project filled with brilliant Chinese culture, touching human stories and the spirit of ordinary workers,” says the documentary’s chief director Li Jiameng.

The series records some of the most beautiful scenery along the roads, from high mountains, across deserts and valleys to coastal planes.

It also tells previously unknown stories behind the construction of some famous roads and the personalities involved.

The construction of the Dianmian Road, which connects Kunming and Ruili, began in 1938. Around 200,000 people completed 1,140 kilometers of brand new road in only 9 months.

In each episode, two celebrities will lead the trip, talk about local custom and interview the people who benefit a lot from the roads.
