Shanghai Curators Lab, a program to nurture young curators with global visions, opened on November 5 at the Shanghai Academy of Fine Arts of Shanghai University.

The residence program will offer young curators from all over the world curriculums and lectures on modern curatorial concepts and practices.

A total of 22 young curators from over 10 countries will participate in the one-month program. With an average age of 28, many of them are gallery curators, independent artists and college students.

They will have a chance to exchange with influential figures in the fields of art, culture and education, pay visits to the 12th Shanghai Biennale and artists’ studios, and present their own projects of exhibitions and performative events for the public.

The program’s lead professors are Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev, director of the Castello di Rivoli Museum of Contemporary Art, and Yongwoo Lee, professor of SAFA at Shanghai University.

Wang Dawei, principal of the Shanghai Academy of Fine Arts of Shanghai University, said that the residence program is to cultivate young professionals.
