An interactive photography and video exhibition about the Silk Road at the Shanghai Auto Museum will run till April 14.

On display are photographs about the cultural and economic exchanges since the Belt and Road Initiative was launched by President Xi Jinping in 2013.

Most of the pictures are based on the photo resources of Xinhua News Agency. They chronicle the years of achievements of this development strategy in regional integration, trade and economic growth.

The initiative also draws inspiration from the Silk Road which was established in the Han Dynasty (206 BC–220 AD) more than 2,000 years ago. The ancient network of trade routes connected the East and West.

Most of the photos were taken from 2014 to 2018 in around 30 countries among the land and maritime networks. They record the impressive scenery, customs and folk cultures of the countries.

One of the photos taken by Chen Bin is about China’s efforts in protecting the Dunhuang murals. Over 5,000 square meters of damaged murals have been restored.

Jiao Xufeng recorded the magnificent beauty of a spring over the Crescent Lake at the foot of Mount Mingsha in Dunhuang, Gansu Province. Some photos captured the memorable moments from the lives of foreigners in Chinese cities.

According to Liu Tao, executive curator of Shanghai Auto Museum, people from many countries and regions have benefited from both the ancient Silk Road and the Belt and Road Initiative. They hope to present the history, origins and cultural connotations of the Silk Road and the Belt and Road Initiative through the exhibit.

As the country’s first auto museum, Shanghai Auto Museum is dedicated to the promotion and research of automobile culture since it opened in 2007.

A lot of theme exhibitions and crossover events have been held at the museum, such as a classic cars exhibition of the 70 years of Porsche and “Moving Fantasy,” an exhibition of the relationship between automobiles, space and human beings.
